Have you heard about NCS? Well it is a programme we are incredibly excited about.
National Citizen Service (NCS) is a summer programme open to anyone aged 16 and 17, who wants to do something fantastic with their summer holidays. What people might not know about NCS however, is just how open it is for people of any race, gender, religion, sexuality or ability, or any other identifier. Every year an immensely diverse group of young people sign up for the programme, - diversity and social mixing are core principles of the NCS programme.
As June is Pride month and also contains Volunteers’ Week (1st-7th June), we at Inspira want to celebrate the diversity of people who sign up to NCS and also take the opportunity for young people to be given a space outside of school to express who they are and shape their identity.
We work hard in Cumbria & Lancashire to ensure anyone who wants to do NCS is able to. By working with young people, parents and guardians and other people connected to that person we ensure they have a great summer and make the most of the NCS experience. Don't take our word for it, check out this blog from The Coffee Lady http://thecoffeelady.blogspot.com
Right now, we are focusing on ensuring that plans are in place for those who need them and filling up our last few places in the Kendal and Lancaster/Morecambe area, you can find out more ad sign up at www.ncsyes.co.uk/summer. Young people who sign up for NCS can expect three weeks of excitement and achievement, with one week doing outdoor activities at an outdoor education centre, one week doing life skills and learning about the community at a local university campus, and then planning and carrying out their own social action project to make a difference locally. More details about dates and logistics can be found on our local site at http://www.ncsnorthwest.co.uk/kendal-and-lancs.
We truly believe (and know) NCS is a transformative experience that thousands of young people in the North West and hundreds of thousands across the country have taken part in and benefitted from.
If you’d like any more information about NCS in this area you can contact the local Area Coordinators by emailing Victoria Carter at [email protected] or Lauren Jackson at [email protected]
We work across Cumbria and Lancashire to bring people together from all walks of life. We connect communities through our programmes and develop people's confidence and skills - enabling them to pursue the life of their dreams.
Every day, inspirational young people and adults take the opportunity to connect with Inspira and change their lives. We are proud to have helped tens of thousands of people over the years. Take a moment to look at some of our inspirational stories.
