On Monday 8th April Regional and Local National Citizen Service (NCS) youth board members hosted an Easter Fun Day at Williamson Park in Lancaster to raise awareness and money for Lancashire MIND.

The Fun Day was part of Action Day 2019, an annual social action campaign organised by NCS across England and Wales.

The team of NCS graduates had completed their NCS journey in the Summer of 2018, and have progressed to becoming Regional and Local Youth Board Members for NCS – their aim being to encourage other young people to volunteer in their local communities and to raise awareness about issues which affect their communities.

Nicola Hullock, Graduate Engagement Assistant with Inspira said, “I am incredibly proud of the Grads who have taken part in NCS Action Day, this year we have had twice as many Grads taking part and twice as many projects. The hard work that the Grads put into planning the event definitely paid off, raising £300 for a local mental health charity.”

Inspira, a local charity who manages personal development and career management programmes, delivers NCS in Cumbria and Lancashire.

Lauren Jackson, NCS Area coordinator and leader of the Lancaster NCS Youth board also commented: “The team have worked so hard over the past few months to come up with ideas, promote and put into practice the event. I have seen the group develop in a massive way including bonding as a team, working together and how their communication and leadership has improved too. I couldn’t be prouder to have them involved in the young board.”

Over 100 families attended the event which included a Treasure Hunt, painting and crafting to promote mindfulness.

Shannon Harrison member of the Regional Youth Board and NCS Graduate shared her experience of the day.

“I absolutely loved our Easter Funday and think it was a great success. My favourite part was seeing all the really happy families, especially the children who were really enjoying the Easter Trail. I am very proud that our group managed to reach our £300 target.”
