Why did you apply to work at Inspira?

I started working for Inspira just over 6 years ago. I had recently completed my English Language Degree but had decided that teaching was not the route I wanted to go down. I was interested in working with young people but wasn’t sure how to go about this. I saw an advert in the local paper for a Graduate Scheme with Inspira and it seemed to be exactly what I was looking for – an opportunity to work closely with young people and adults to support their personal development and career choices whilst gaining a qualification in Careers Advice and Guidance. After completing the scheme and gaining my qualification, I became a Skills and Development Adviser for the company.

What does your Job entail?

My job is varied. I work with young people in schools and Colleges, as well as adults to support their career progression. This can be in 1:1 or targeted groups sessions such as, ‘Interview Skills’ or ‘Creating a Good CV’. I also enjoy working as a Wave Leader for the NCS Programme in the summer.

What do you enjoy about your Job?

I love that my job is varied, that each day can be different. I enjoy working with different client groups and helping people to achieve their goals. This could be through a one-off appointment or working with someone over a period of time if they need a little more support to get to where they need to be.

Having such a varied role keeps my days interesting. I am also very much a people person; my favourite part of the job is meeting with different clients on a day to day basis, hearing about their lives, goals and supporting them with this where I can.

The National Citizen Programme programme is a fantastic opportunity for young people in the area. As a Wave Leader, I can get to know all the young people on my wave and witness the positive impact the programme has on them. I may have eaten some strange meals made by young people over the years but it is worth it to see participants grow in confidence, independence and the gain the ability to work together in a team to solve problems and overcome obstacles.

I am so thankful to be able to say that I love my job, I love the role and fantastic team of people I work with every day.
