Employer: Inspira. I am based at their delivery office in Carlisle.
Why did you choose an apprenticeship? I wanted to learn in a different environment to school as I wanted a change and I wanted to gain a qualification while earning.
What did you get out of your apprenticeship? During my apprenticeship I gained a lot of confidence whilst interacting with customers both on the telephone and face to face. I also gained a lot of different skills to be able to work in an office environment including answering phones, auditing records, finance, filing, updating rota’s and calendars.
Take us through a typical day: I’m usually ‘on duty’ in a morning which includes welcoming customers into the centre and signposting them to the correct Adviser. I also answer telephone calls internally and externally and book customers into appointments, input data into our online databases and update records. I complete daily tasks for my manager which includes creating spreadsheets, updating rotas and creating documents.
What do you like most about the job? Every day is different.
What do you like least about the job? There is nothing I really dislike within my role.
Why did you want to do this job? I wanted to experience what it was like working within an office and I was intrigued to find out what Inspira delivered as a company as I wasn’t aware of all the contracts delivered.
What jobs have you done previously? None (although I completed work experience at The Premier Inn as a house keeper).
Any advice for people wanting to get into your profession? If you are wanting to work within business administration it is important you are willing to work within a team and under pressure at times in order to meet deadlines. I think an apprenticeship is a great way to get into the admin profession as this will allow you to gain all the relevant knowledge.
