Hi my name is Delia and I'm a Skills and Development Adviser based in North Cumbria. I've worked for Inspira for nearly 10 years, offering careers information, advice and guidance to adults as part of the National Careers Service.

Most days you'll find me either answering calls on the National Careers Service helpline or meeting people face-to-face. I help people in lots of different ways, from working with them on their CVs and applications, to deciding on career options or even career changes and helping them come up with an action plan. I also do group sessions with people covering everything from making the most of their digital profiles to fine-tuning their interview skills.

The thing I love most about my job is making a difference to the lives of the people I meet - whether I'm helping them to create a CV that gets them a job, identifying and gaining them funding for training, or helping them to start their own business.

My inspirational story

A few years ago I cycled from Egypt to India for Women v Cancer and raised approximately £15,000. It was really challenging because you're cycling 60-90k a day. I remember it being so hot in Egypt that the roads were literally melting! It took us a week in total. I'm very proud of myself for doing it.

Words to live by
