Inspira, the Cumbria based leader in career management and personal development programmes, plans to take on an additional 140 extra staff this summer, most are recruited but around 20 roles are still to be filled throughout Cumbria and North Lancashire.
As the main deliverer of the National Citizen’s Service (NCS) in the local area, Inspira requires additional staff resource to ensure the smooth running of the NCS programme and to make sure the young people who take part are safe and getting the most out of the three/four-week part-residential adventure.
“We held our first staff training event on Saturday,” said Louisa Graham, HR Manager with Inspira. ”This one was for returning staff from last year’s programme. Normally around 30% of staff return, this year 58% are planning to return for another summer of demanding, but extremely rewarding work.”
All staff, whether new to NCS or returners, undergo a thorough training programme. The training combines online modules and face to face events where people are given the opportunity to meet other staff who they will be working with. Modules within the online and offline training include understanding and adopting the NCS ethos and principles, health and safety, safeguarding and how to embed reflection as a learning process.
There are two staff roles, Team Leaders and Team Assistants – Inspira is still looking for twenty more Team leaders. Both roles suit people who have a desire to work with young people, formal qualifications aren’t required as full training is given.
“We need more Team Leaders,” continues Ms Graham. “They do need to be over 21yrs old, and to ensure we have a good mix, we need interest from both males and females. So if you, or you know someone who is interested and available to work in West Cumbria, Kendal, Lancaster or Barrow on the 1st, 8th and 15th of July for the following three consecutive weeks – do get in touch.”
Team Leaders are assigned their own group of 15-17 year olds, who they support and guide on their NCS journey. The Team Leader roles are for three weeks (Mondays to Fridays only) with the first two weeks taking place in residentials and the third in the local community.
"Team Leaders must be resilient and have sufficient energy to undertake two weeks of residentials with Young People,” laughs Louisa, “But for this they are paid £1280 and gain an enormous amount of personal development which always looks amazing on anyone’s CV!”
