Pre-employment programme saves recruitment time

UPS has successfully recruited four new staff members through the innovative pre-employment programme managed and delivered by Inspira.

The free initiative which is based on matching live company vacancies with people who are unemployed, ensures prospective employees are interview ready and prepared for the world of work.

“It is a great way to source suitable candidates,” said Kelly Mahady from UPS.

Designed around the specific needs of a company, prospective employees are taught about the company and roles in question and receive practical support to understand, develop and match their skills, knowledge, attributes and experience to the job description. Employing companies are involved in the process to candidates are fully aware of the job specifications and what it is like to work for the organisations.

“As employers we are making the final decision on those candidates who are successful, but it is nice to have fully prepared candidates who are all ready and prepared for interview,” continued Ms Mahady.

The successful candidates in Barrow were employed as seasonal vacancy helpers, while one person was employed as a warehouse operative in Carlisle.

"We are working with a number of companies who have recruitment needs," says Julia Winder, Area Operations Manager for Inspira. "Due to the number of unemployed people we are working with in Barrow and across the whole County, we would welcome more employers to approach us if they have live vacancies they want to fill.”

“As a company it has saved us time in recruiting,” said Ms Mchardy. “The programme was well prepared and helped everyone who participated develop people skills and the confidence to get back into employment.”
