Donna's ambition shines through after confidence boosted

Donna attended a group workshop guiding candidates through a rigorous recruitment process for a large public sector organisation. She had been on benefits for four years and struggled with dyslexia, lack of confidence, and lack of self-esteem.

Initially uncomfortable in a group, when encouraged, Donna spoke with passion about helping at a women's refuge, and her confidence grew.

Donna also attended a one to one appointment where she was encouraged to use the National Careers Service website. The website helps people explore relevant job roles and to create up to date CVs tailored to each job role they apply for.

Following the workshop and one to one help, Donna completed online tests and consequently invited for an interview.

Donna landed the role she wanted and says, "I think my prospects have improved as the Careers Service gave me the confidence to apply for jobs and move forward. I was helped to express myself in the right way and given a structure that helped me understand how to make a good application. I am heading into employment and will have my own income. It will open up different opportunities in the future."

Donna has advised friends to contact the National Careers Service to help find work and a better future. Joining in with groups and work experience helped improve her confidence and showed her she was more capable than she thought. Donna's new ambition is to do well in her role and gain progression.
