Support from Inspira helps home school student transition to training provider

Katie* was home educated. A decision made due to Katie being bullied which resulted in high anxiety levels; she had lost her confidence in socialising with peers and in being around large numbers of people in busy settings.

Katie and her Grandmother, who was also her carer, wanted to know how she could prepare for what next, after Year 11.

Talking to an Inspira adviser, Katie was advised to try and gain qualifications in Maths and English, preferably GCSEs and to get broader experiences from volunteering, personal development (such as NCS) or work experience, if possible.

As Katie and her adviser worked through a progression plan, Katie thought that she would be comfortable with a small training venue and that a college would most likely be too intimidating. Nacro was identified as an ideal solution. Following a visit Katie felt it was the place for her, so an application was written in conjunction with Inspira.

Focused on studying Health and Social Care with English and Maths, Katie was very excited about joining Nacro, having been out of the education system for over a year. It was a positive start to Year 12, and we wish Katie lots of luck now and in the future.
