Volunteering helps Teen find ideal career path

Maisy was directed to Inspira by her mum who worked in education and knew about Inspira's career advice service for young people.

Maisy had wanted to work with children, but realised it wasn't really for her and she also felt that she lacked confidence.

To help, an Inspira adviser encouraging Maisy to attend fortnightly sessions held at the local Inspira centre. During these sessions, Maisy learnt how to update her CV and apply for jobs. The adviser showed her different websites for employment opportunities and training options to improve her IT skills.

To help strengthen her CV, Maisy was encouraged to volunteer and was supported to apply for a volunteering role with the British Heart Foundation, which she now attends twice a week.

Maisy feels her self-esteem has improved by volunteering which has given her more confidence dealing with the public.

"I have enjoyed the volunteering role," says Maisy, "and it has helped me have a much clearer idea about my career path - business admin. I feel happier about what I want to do and have now applied for an apprenticeship in Business Admin level 2 with Gen 2. I think the service proved by Inspira was ‘very helpful and understanding."
