What you need to know:
GCSE Results Day is just around the corner. We hope that you get the results that you wished for but understand that this does not happen all the time.
Whatever your results give yourself a pat on the back! You will have done your best and this year has been more challenging than most. Whatever grades you have, there are options out there for you. Inspira advisers are on hand to help you out.
We have put together some of the most common questions that we get asked as exam results day approaches and included some that are more relevant this year.
I didn't get the grades I needed for my college or sixth form, what do I do now?
If you don’t get the grades required for your desired college or sixth form don’t panic! You should contact the college or sixth form first as there may be some flexibility about the grades they might accept. They may also offer you an alternative subject but, remember to check how this could impact your long-term career plan.
I didn't get the grades I needed for my apprenticeship, what do I do now?
If you don’t get the grades you need for your apprenticeship, your first port of call should be speaking to the employer or training provider to check if they accept lower grades. It could be you impressed them in the interview process, and they will still accept you.
Additionally, they could offer you a lower-level apprenticeship, with the option of retaking English and Maths.
I am not happy with my grades, is there the option to re-sit?
This year your grades will have been determined by teacher assessed grades. Students will be able to appeal their grades, and a final decision will be made by the exam board. It is worth remembering that grades can go up or down as the result of an appeal. Students who are unhappy with their grades can choose to sit an examination in the autumn term of 2021, and the government has said that there will be a full series of GCSE, AS and A-Level examinations held in the autumn. Alternatively, students can enter again for the summer 2022 exams.
What can I do if my grades are below Grade 4?
Good news! There are still many choices available to you. Ranging from more practical options to vocational courses that are offered by colleges, no matter what level grade you start with. You may have to start on a lower-level course and work your way up. Remember, you may have to resist English and Maths depending on your grade.
Whether you’re aiming for an academic route to university or a vocational course that leads to employment, Inspira is here to help guide you through your options.
