Empowering Year 9 Students through 'I Can Too' Programme.

Inspiration two day residential to Glasgow
14 April 2025

In collaboration with The REACT Foundation, the 'I Can Too' programme has been making remarkable strides in nurturing the potential of Year 9 students. By encouraging them to embrace their abilities and aspire to greater heights, the initiative seeks to inspire students to continue exploring maths and science beyond Year 11 via a variety of routes. Recognising the growing local and national opportunities in engineering, this programme aims to guide students towards fulfilling career paths, no matter the chosen route.

Each half term, students engage in engaging and enjoyable activities that demonstrate the real-world applications of maths and science. Additionally, one-to-one mentoring support provided by Inspira motivates students to stay motivated and celebrates their efforts and achievements along the way.

What a remarkable journey this has been! Over the past year, it has been a true privilege to support these talented students, especially during their inspiring two-day residential in Glasgow last week:

Day One: The students embarked on a fascinating journey through the Botanical Gardens, exploring diverse plant species and their unique characteristics. Their next stop was the University of Glasgow, where they delved into the institution's rich history and marvelled at its impressive architecture. The day concluded with an inspiring visit to UG Racing, where they were guided around the workshop area and introduced to various engineering disciplines involved in designing a car set to race during the summer.

Day Two: The morning began with a visit to the historic Glasgow Cathedral, where students uncovered its intriguing past and learned about the artistry behind stained glass. Later, at Glasgow College Riverside Campus, students enjoyed hands-on experiences with nautical training simulators and tackled engineering challenges like constructing the tallest tower and designing the most effective parachute. The day wrapped up with an excursion to the Riverside Transport Museum and a lively game of football in the park, blending education with recreation seamlessly.

From forming meaningful friendships to tackling new challenges head-on, their dedication and growth have been extraordinary. We hold immense pride in their achievements and eagerly anticipate the exceptional career paths their vast potential will pave for them. Here's to a promising and successful future ahead!
